11 minute read. By Sophy Singer, founder of Sophy Love.
Many people who call me about matchmaking ask about price in the first few minutes, and they should. A dating app can cost less than a dinner out. A private search can cost more than a new car.
I’ve been a matchmaker for more than 15 years, and I run Sophy Love, a boutique luxury matchmaking firm headquartered in San Diego. Here’s what each type costs in 2026, and why some searches cost far more than others.
A note on the numbers: These figures are publicly reported ranges in 2026. Prices change, so please confirm with each firm.
Key Takeaways
- Dating apps cost the least. Having someone run your apps starts from $1,695 a month at Vida Select; a full digital matchmaking program runs $8,800 to $28,000, depending on the length of the search and the added services.
- A private matchmaking search runs $25,000 to $95,000. The price depends mostly on how narrow the search is.
- Working directly with a firm's founder adds a large premium, about $120,000 to $200,000, because it becomes a true luxury service.
- No honest matchmaker guarantees love by a date. Get the price, scope and terms in writing.

The Lower-Cost Options
Dating Apps (Self-Serve)
Typical price: EliteSingles lists $34.99 to $64.99 a month.
What you get: Access to a pool of singles; you do the searching, screening and messaging.
How pricing works: A monthly subscription.
Best for: Independent daters on a budget.
I hear this all the time: the subscription is the smallest cost. The bigger one is time and energy. Many people tell me the apps started to feel like an unpaid second job.
Dating App Management and Digital Matchmaking
Typical price: From $1,695 a month at Vida Select, month-to-month. A full digital matchmaking program runs $8,800 to $28,000, depending on the search.
What you get: Someone runs the apps for you. At Sophy Love, your personal digital matchmaker handles the work of online dating for you: profile optimization, swiping, messaging, evaluating potential matches, and helping move the right conversations toward real dates. You approve the potential matches.
How pricing works: Month-to-month at some firms, a program fee at others.
Best for: Singles open to the apps but done doing the labor themselves.
Dating Coaching
Typical price: A few thousand dollars.
What you get: Help with the part of dating no matchmaker can do for you: how you show up. At Sophy Love, Dating Reframe helps when old patterns, wounds, or habits get in the way; Digital Dating Refresh gives you expert guidance while you run your own apps.
How pricing works: A program fee, bought alone or alongside a search.
Best for: Changing how you date, not only who you meet.
Memberships: The Closer Circle and a Free Way In
The Closer Circle is the simplest way to work with a luxury matchmaking firm and its coaches for very little: a live coaching call every week on Zoom with me or one of our coaches, the online dating course, the resource library, and priority invitations to our events. $29 a month or $290 a year, cancel anytime. It isn’t matchmaking; it’s support between dates. Join the Closer Circle here.
To start at no cost, a free Sophy Love membership includes inclusion in our private dating directory, where you may be considered as a match for Sophy Love clients, access to Sophy Love events, and the Sophy Love newsletter.
The Four Types of Matchmakers and What They Cost
These are the same four types I describe in my guide on how to choose among the four types of matchmakers.
Local or Niche Matchmakers
Typical price: Varies widely. Many price by consultation.
What you get: A matchmaker rooted in one city or one community, often a faith community.
How pricing works: At some firms, men pay and women join the database free. Some charge a consultation fee.
Best for: Searches defined by place or faith.
Examples: Fass Pass to Love (Jewish singles only) and Traci Porterfield’s Love By Design, local to San Diego.
Large National Networks
Typical price: Packages from about $6,000.
What you get: Introductions from a large network of singles across many cities; for many people, a real step up from the apps. Matchmakers typically handle 20 – 30 clients and searches are less personal.
How pricing works: A package, often customizable.
Best for: An accessible first step into matchmaking.
Examples: Tawkify and Three Day Rule.
Boutique and Executive Search Firms
Typical price: $25,000 to $95,000 for a private matchmaking search. Yes, that’s a wide range. The math of a narrow search, below, explains why.
What you get: A dedicated search for each client, much like an executive recruiter searching for a key hire: recruiting beyond the firm’s own network, interviewing candidates, and staying hands-on through every introduction.
How pricing works: Per engagement, scoped to the search.
Best for: A personal search built around you.
Examples: Cinqe, Agape Match, Selective Search, and Sophy Love.
Working directly with the founder is a step beyond. At that point it becomes a true luxury service, and the price reflects it: about $120,000 to $200,000.
Luxury and Celebrity Matchmakers
Typical price: At the very top of the market, Kelleher International says on its own website that its fees “can range from $50,000 up to $500,000.”
What you get: Long track records, wide connections, and fully bespoke engagements.
How pricing works: A custom engagement.
Best for: The most bespoke experience available.
Examples: Kelleher International, Maclynn International, and Patti Stanger’s Millionaire’s Club. Sophy Love also works at this level, with private searches led personally by Sophy.
Why Some Searches Cost More: The Math of a Narrow Search
Here’s the thing most price lists leave out. Two private searches can cost very different amounts, usually because of how many people could fit what you’re looking for.
Here’s a rough illustration. Say a woman in Los Angeles is looking for a Jewish man, single, at least 6’1″, who earns $350,000 or more a year. None of that is unusual to want. Watch the numbers:
| Step | Who is left | Roughly how many |
|---|---|---|
| Everyone in Los Angeles County | All residents | 9.76 million |
| Jewish | Jewish Angelenos | 560,000 |
| Men, adults | About half are men, about 80% of them adults | 224,000 |
| Not married | About 40% of adults over 50 are not married | 90,000 |
| 6’1″ or taller | About 1 in 10 men | 9,000 |
| Earns $350,000 or more | Roughly the top 1.6% of U.S. workers | 140 |
Sources: Los Angeles County population, 9,757,179, with 19.9% under 18 (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, July 1, 2024); U.S. population about 340 million (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 estimate); Jewish Los Angeles (2021 study by the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles with Brandeis University and NORC at the University of Chicago); not married, 40% of adults over 50 (Bowling Green State University, National Center for Family & Marriage Research, Census data, 2024); height, with the 95th percentile for men about 6’2″ (CDC National Center for Health Statistics, 2015 to 2018); income, with the 98th percentile about $304,000 and the 99th about $430,000 (Census CPS data compiled by DQYDJ, 2023 income).
This treats each trait as independent, which real life doesn’t, so the true number could be higher or lower. But the shape holds. About 140 men in all of Los Angeles County: roughly 0.0014% of the county, and about 0.00004% of the country.
And that’s before the real filter. Of those 140, how many are in your age range, ready for a relationship right now, share your values, and would want to meet you? Possibly a few dozen. Possibly fewer.
The same math applies to any specific search, for a woman or a man.
What This Means for You
None of this means you’re asking for too much. It means your search needs a different kind of work.
A broad search sits at the low end of the $25,000 to $95,000 range: the database and the apps produce plenty of candidates. A narrow search sits at the high end: recruiting person by person, reaching through networks and partner matchmakers, interviewing each candidate, and far more hours. When the founder leads the search personally, the luxury premium comes on top.
That’s why we always rather talk about your search before we talk about any numbers.
What Drives the Price of a Matchmaker
At Sophy Love, engagements are scoped around the type of search, geography, term, and level of support. Across the industry, the main drivers are:
- How narrow the search is: how many people could fit, as above.
- Recruiting versus database: recruiting new people for one client takes far more work than searching a database.
- Geography: one city, or several.
- Term: a few active months, or a year.
- Level of support: coaching, photos, date planning, feedback.
- Who leads the search: a search led by the founder is priced higher.
It’s like hiring any professional: a recruiter who searches the whole market for one key hire charges more than a job board.
Hidden Costs: Questions to Ask Before You Sign
Ask any firm, including mine, and get the answers in writing:
- Is there a consultation fee?
- When does active matching begin? Most engagements begin with an onboarding and search-strategy phase before active matching begins.
- Can I pause, and does a pause extend my term?
- What happens at renewal, and what does it cost?
- What if I decline a match? Does it count toward the number I was told to expect?
- What’s included, and what’s extra: coaching, photos, styling, date planning?
- What is the refund policy? Get it in the contract before you pay.
Is a Matchmaker Worth the Money?
The question I hear most is “What if I pay and it doesn’t work?”
No honest matchmaker can guarantee that you’ll fall in love, or by when. What you’re paying for is a better process: a wider search than you could run alone, people screened before you meet them, honest feedback, and someone in your corner.
It’s often worth it if you’re serious about a relationship and want professional help, as you would for any important decision. It’s probably not if you’re not ready to date or want a guarantee. And if your budget points to coaching or the Closer Circle right now, that’s a good choice, not a lesser one.
For context, 86% of Sophy Love clients are in a relationship within 18 months of starting with us, whether through someone we introduced or someone they met independently during or after working with us. That’s a historical result, not a guarantee.
Red Flags When Comparing Prices
- A guarantee of love by a date. No one can promise that.
- “Only one spot left.” Pressure to sign today is about the sale, not about you.
- No price in writing. A professional firm puts price, scope and terms on paper before you commit.
Where Sophy Love Fits
Sophy Love is a boutique luxury matchmaking firm. We’re headquartered in San Diego, with local matchmakers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Cleveland and Vancouver. We work with clients anywhere in the US, and offer digital matchmaking in English-speaking countries. We’re in the boutique and executive search group and also work at the luxury level.
What sets us apart, in plain words:
- An experienced team, run with care. Our matchmakers are experienced, trained in a shared process and backed by clear systems, so every search is handled with the same care. I review matches with our team before they’re presented. Our team screens potential matches before any introduction, and you approve every introduction.
- More coaching than most firms. Clients tell us it’s what made the difference. It’s offered, never required. Our coaching draws on attachment theory, a way of understanding the patterns you bring into relationships.
- Everything in-house. We offer coaching, digital dating, Executive Matchmaking, or a search that combines them, all run by our own team, so quality stays under our control. We also draw on a network of 400+ partner matchmakers.
Sophy Love has been helping singles navigate dating and relationships for six years. We’ve worked with 286 clients and generated more than 5,600 matches. Read what clients say on our testimonials page.
We aren’t the right fit for everyone. If your search is defined by one faith community, a niche matchmaker may serve you better.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a matchmaker cost in 2026?
National network packages start around $6,000 (publicly reported, 2026). In our tier, digital matchmaking runs $8,800 to $28,000, a private search $25,000 to $95,000, and a founder-led search about $120,000 to $200,000. At the very top, Kelleher International says its fees can range from $50,000 up to $500,000.
Why is a matchmaker so expensive?
Because the work is a search, and narrow searches take far more hours. A broad search can draw on a database and the apps. A narrow one, say a specific faith, height and income in one city, may leave about 140 possible men in all of Los Angeles County before age, readiness and values. Finding them means recruiting person by person.
How much does Sophy Love cost?
At Sophy Love, digital matchmaking runs $8,800 to $28,000, a private matchmaking search $25,000 to $95,000, and a search led personally by Sophy about $120,000 to $200,000. Engagements are scoped around the type of search, geography, term, and level of support.
What is the cheapest alternative to a matchmaker?
Dating apps cost the least, such as $34.99 to $64.99 a month at EliteSingles. The Closer Circle at Sophy Love offers weekly live coaching on Zoom for $29 a month or $290 a year, cancel anytime. A free Sophy Love membership places you in our private dating directory at no cost.
Why do some matchmaking services let women join for free?
At some firms, paying clients (often men) hire the firm to run a search, while database members (often women) join free after screening and may be introduced to those clients. Neither role is better; it helps to know which one you have.
Do matchmakers guarantee results or offer refunds?
No honest matchmaker guarantees that you’ll find a partner by a certain date. Refund, pause and cancellation policies vary by firm, so ask for them in writing, in the contract, before you pay.
Before You Decide
Price matters, and it should. But the most useful question isn’t only “How much?” It’s “What kind of help do I actually want?” Some people need someone to run the apps. Some need a full search. Some need a few honest conversations about how they date. All of those are good answers.
If you’d like to talk it through, including options that aren’t us, I’d be glad to. No pressure, just a conversation.
